Hem Genetics BV was founded in April 1998. The company’s objective is research, breeding and marketing of flower seed varieties and vegetatively propagated plant material for pots and bedding, aimed at the professional growers market.

In the meantime Hem Genetics has succeeded in developing quite a number of new series of bedding plant varieties.
A number of these newly launched varieties have received awards from Fleuroselect and All America Selections.

Hem Genetics initiated a breakthrough in Petunia breeding with the development of the world’s first naturally dwarf Petunia: the Limbo and Mambo series. For Petunia growth regulators are history! For the near future Hem Genetics has other interesting varieties in development which will have their impact on the market.

Hem Zaden BV, the parent company of Hem Genetics, is one of the world’s main producers of open pollinated flower and herb seed varieties. Hem Zaden BV sells to seed companies worldwide and to producers of pictorial packets for the home gardener.

Today Hem Zaden BV produces over
2,000 flower seed varieties in 12 different countries on three continents. Hem Zaden’s extensive assortment is a valuable genetic source for the development of future Hem Genetics varieties. The vast experience of Hem Zaden, gained over many years of seed production and treatment, in combination with the creation of new varieties by Hem Genetics, formed the company into an innovative and reliable partner for customers all over the world.

With a view to the likely long term effects of the consumer trend away from growing plants from seed to buying young plants produced by professional growers, Hem Zaden decided to establish Hem Genetics.
